Magen David Adom UK
|
Magen David Adom, (the Red Shield of David), Israel’s emergency medical service, which is affiliated to the Red Cross and Red Crescent, had its origins back in 1930, well before the emergence of the sovereign state. Not being publicly funded, the service has for many years struggled to maintain its excellent and, indeed, world-wide reputation in the face of ever-present terrorist threats and action, as well as the usual calls, for example, to vehicle accidents.
In 2007, a group of evangelical Christians, initially in the Greater Manchester area, formed CHRISTIAN FRIENDS OF MAGEN DAVID ADOM to raise both funds and awareness for this remarkable organisation. ever mindful of the Biblical injunction to bless Israel (Genesis 12).
June 2008 saw the dedication of the first ambulance purchased, in Tiberias, northern Israel. Only 16 months later, a second was dedicated, to be based in Nazareth. Both of them display the words “Presented to the people of Israel by the Christian Friends of Magen David Adom, United Kingdom”. These fully equipped vehicles witness on the streets to the Christian love for Israel’s people, all of them, for no account is taken of religion or affiliation, but to medical need.
Our current project is the provision of a mobile blood unit, a hi-tech vehicle, which, at £90,000, is twice the cost of a standard ambulance. We give thanks to Lord that we are already 60% towards that target.
Today CFMDA have branches in Manchester, Bolton, Liverpool, Glasgow and Halifax, as well as supporters in other parts of the UK.
