Prayer for Israel
A group focusing on prayer for the state and people of Israel, and Jews everywhere, has been established for many years, and meets once a month. Other events, visits etc., are also arranged when and where appropriate.
We have an inheritance, as Christian believers, from the Jewish roots of the faith. The Scriptures, both Old and New Testament, were recorded by Jews, in a Jewish historical and cultural, as well as spiritual, context. The great majority of characters who appear in the narratives were Jewish; Abraham; Isaac; Jacob; Joseph; Moses; Elijah; Isaiah; James; Peter; John; Paul. And of course, after the flesh, the Lord Jesus Himself. He is the Holy one of Israel; great David's greater son.
But also of vital significance, from our understanding and reading of the Bible, is that Almighty God has not cast off, or finished with the Jews as a distinct and special people. He has declared promises and established covenants, and remains true to His word and purposes. We want to be in conformity and agreement, not contrary and against.
World events as they unfold, pointing inexorably to end-times concerning the nations as prophesied and recorded for us in the Scriptures, cause us to focus more and more on the tiny but monumentally significant state of Israel, the 'Holy Land' and the people who live there, and will live there as the miracle of the return of the exiles continues.
Ezekiel 36 is the word of the Lord concerning the return. Romans 9,10, and 11, record the inspired word, through Paul, explaining the relationship of the Church to Israel, and the roots of our faith. The heart of God is expressed in the word of God, the basis for our faith and practice concerning Israel and the Jews.
Our hope and prayer is that all those of the household of faith will come to understand and appreciate where we must stand in these last days. God, the covenant keeper, will fulfill His promises, work out His purposes, and have the last word. And we want to serve the purpose of God in our Generation.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. They shall prosper that love thee. Psalm 122 verse 6.
